END OF/START OF TERM ARRANGEMENTS

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am writing to you to inform you of the planned building works at Ormiston NEW Academy and the impact they will have later this term and the restart arrangements for September.

We are anticipating that the school population from September will now exceed 900 students (which 4 years ago when I started was below 700) and as a result we need to develop our site to accommodate and specifically cater for this amount of children going forward.

We have been fortunate enough to receive funding from Ormiston to build an extension to our current catering facilities. This means that building works will be taking place from July untill approximately November.

In the first instance the building team need access to be able to lay foundations for the new build, this means that the end of term for students will now have to be Tuesday 18th July at 3.05pm. Staff will be working on site during the remainder of the term, but it will be too dangerous for children to be on site during the final week.

I appreciate the impact this will have on families and not what my preference would have been, but I have to put the safety of the children paramount, and thus my decision to close the school for children from the 18th July is unavoidable. The decision was made today following the initial meeting with the contractor, and thus I have chosen to share this as quickly as possible.

With regard to our return after the school holidays the following arrangements apply

Monday 4th September: Staff training day
Tuesday 5th September: Years 7, 11 and 12 only
Wednesday 6th September: All year groups

Yours sincerely
Principal
