Enrichment

At Ormiston NEW Academy, we believe that enrichment can extend and broaden the range of educational experiences for our students, broadening horizons, helping them to discover hidden talents, try new things and to promote their growing love of learning. Ormiston NEW Academy students are encouraged to participate in as many clubs, trips and activities as possible; both on and off site.

We take pride in providing opportunities for our students to develop themselves beyond what is required of them by the national curriculum and motivate them to enjoy new forms of learning, building their cultural capital in a variety of ways.

Through the breadth of activities on offer, we ensure that every student has the opportunity to discover and develop existing and new talents and interests as well as reminding them that learning can be fun.

As part of the OAT family, we recognise that enrichment is a driver to support student achievement in the classroom.

We follow the OAT Charter, which ensures that all students can:

  1. encounter a range of people, places, and events
  2. develop a broad general knowledge and engage critically with topical and contentious issues
  3. become familiar and proficient with skills related to a broad range of fields as well as hone and master skills related to their passions
  4. be active members in their lessons, teams, schools, community and wider society and exert influence over issues they care about; share their skills, knowledge and passions for the benefit of others
  5. make informed decisions about their best next steps within and beyond school
  6. take pride in their identity, culture, and achievements; appreciate the identity, culture and achievement of others

Student Experience Passport

To help students capture all the amazing experiences they encounter, each one is given a special student experience passport. This little booklet is like a treasure map, filled with spaces to write down all the unique activities, events, and milestones they discover. Whether it’s a fun field trip, a science fair, or a guest speaker who inspires them, students can jot their experiences down, making sure they don’t forget these special moments. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate their journey!

The student experience passport not only helps in keeping a record but also encourages students to step out of their comfort zones. Whenever they try something new—like joining a club or participating in a competition—they can add it to their passport. This reflection helps them recognize how much they are growing and learning. Plus, looking back at all these experiences can boost their confidence and motivate them to seek even more adventures throughout their education.

Finally, sharing the student experience passport with friends and family is a wonderful way to celebrate achievements. Students can discuss their favourite memories and inspire each other to explore new opportunities. This fosters a sense of community and belonging, allowing everyone to cheer each other on. By the time they graduate, students will have a beautiful collection of memories that highlight their journey, reminding them of how much they have experienced and grown during their time in with us.

The student experience passport can be found here.
