Curriculum

Our students experience a fun, challenging and knowledge-rich curriculum that teaches them to be industrious and respectful, enabling them to thrive. Our curriculum is built upon reading, writing, oracy and mathematics and delivers excellence based on our principles of endeavour, practice and discipline.

We aim to build on the foundations of the KS2 curriculum so that our students’ education smoothly transitions between primary and secondary school. Our robust and challenging KS3 aligns with the National Curriculum, providing breadth and balance across a range of subjects. Our curriculum is the knowledge that after careful thought, we deem to be important and of value to us and our community.

RE

At Ormiston NEW Academy, through our RE curriculum, we are committed to developing within our students an understanding of cultural diversity, empathy and tolerance for others, enabling them to become 21st century global citizens.

As key drivers of our curriculum, social justice and ambition underpin the RE curriculum through our commitment to ensuring all students have the opportunity to become religiously literate. This means students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to hold balanced and well informed conversations about theology, philosophy and human and social sciences. You can find out more about what children will learn within each year group using the drop down tabs above.

Should you wish to discuss the right to withdraw from the RE curriculum, please get in touch with the academy.

Music

The national plan for music education sets out the government’s vision to enable all children and young people in England to:

  • learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together
  • have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally

The plan sets out how we will achieve this vision by 2030, emphasising the importance of partnerships between education settings, music hubs, music organisations working with young people and the music industry.

You can find Ormiston NEW Academy’s Music Development Plan here.
